It’s 10/10. The title of the original review said it, and we stand by it.

Homiah’s Sambal Chili Crunch is where Malaysian sambal tradition meets the chili crisp format — and the result is one of the richest, most complete jars we’ve reviewed.

What makes it different

Most chili crisps in the US lean Chinese (Sichuan peppercorn, fermented black bean) — Homiah goes Southeast Asian: sambal aromatics, lemongrass brightness, and that deep, rounded heat that builds instead of stabbing. The founder built the recipe from family heritage, and it tastes like it. Heads-up: the classic version gets its depth from shrimp, so it’s not vegetarian (they make a vegan version too).

The taste test

Rich is the word. The heat is real — around 7/10 for us — but it arrives wrapped in so much flavor you keep going anyway. The crunch is generous without being a gimmick. On rice it’s a complete meal. On grilled meat, satay-adjacent magic. On noodles, gone in minutes.

Verdict

A tier with a 10/10 heart. If you’ve worked through the Sichuan-style jars and want a different passport stamp, this is the one we hand people first. Available on their site and Amazon.

Best on

  • rice
  • noodles
  • grilled meat
  • satay

Skip it if

  • you avoid shrimp (their vegan version skips it)
