Four jars, one family story, and one very loud La Original.

Chelas Chile is a family-run brand created by owner Laura and named in honor of her late mother, Chela. The lineup draws on Mexican chile oil and salsa macha flavors, with vegan and gluten-free recipes.

We tasted all four.

The lineup

La Original: olive oil, chile de arbol, onion, garlic, tomato, sesame, almonds, oregano, and salt. This one comes in hot. It hit us at around 8.5/10; try it on eggs, tacos, rice, or anything that can handle a serious kick.

Sabor a Mi: the same base, but milder. For us it landed around 6.5/10, with more balance and more room to taste the nuts, sesame, and tomato underneath.

La Macha: the chunky one. Almonds, sesame seeds, peanuts, and, we couldn’t believe it either, tortillas. This was the most textural of the group and the easiest to spoon onto tacos, eggs, or roasted vegetables.

The Crunch: a dry topping more than an oil. Think savory chile crumb for finishing bowls, soups, tacos, or even mac and cheese.

Verdict

A tier as a lineup. Chelas tastes handmade and gourmet. This is not a cheap grocery-store chili crisp replacement; it is more like a Mexican chile oil set for people who want heat, texture, and a good story behind the jar.

If you only buy one, choose based on tolerance: La Original if you want heat, Sabor a Mi if you want balance, La Macha if you want texture.

Best on

  • tacos
  • eggs
  • grilled meat
  • popcorn

Skip it if

  • you want mild: La Original punches you in the gut (happily)
